How old does a French Bulldog puppy have to be to take him home?

I’m waiting for my French Bulldog puppy to get a little older before I actually take him home. He is almost four weeks old, and I want to know when I should take him home. The breeder says 7.5 weeks, but I’ve heard it is okay at 6 weeks. But, I want the best for the puppy.

    Minimum – 8 weeks!!!

Better is 12 weeks. The time between 8 & 12 week is a good time for the puppy to be socializing with his littermates, and owners. His immune system is developing, and by 12 weeks he can have had all his puppy shots. He is also able to make a smoother transition to a Loving Forever Home. Be patient, and best of luck to you and your new Frenchie.

    They are awesome little dogs.

8 weeks should be the soonest of any breed, but it’s okay to wait even longer than that. NO sooner though.

The breeder is wrong and so are you!!

NO puppy should leave until they are 8-12 weeks old. The older the better. Taking the puppies away too young will lead to behavioral issues and also socialization issues.

Do not buy this puppy because the breeder has no clue!

Below is a good link for you. You should be able to find a breeder referral or a list of breeers. Look for a breeder who breeds to better the breed and tests for genetic conditions using OFA, MSU, CERF, Pennhip. Make sure to ask to see results of genetic tests. Ask plenty of questions.

7.5 is ok but not before.

It should be at LEAST eight weeks. 10-12 is better. Good for you for actually thinking this through!

A puppy should NEVER be taken from its mother/littermates before the age of 8 weeks. Also, its never okay to take them at 6 weeks. This is because these last few weeks are vital for the puppies personal growth, they learn how to socialise with other dogs and learn about behaviour which they will carry through to adulthood.

A pup should never be taken from the mother or litter until at least 8 weeks of age, sometimes breeders try to get rid of them sooner because the sooner a female stops lactating the sooner it can be bred again. Don’t fall for it. I know you want your pup and are so excited, but please wait 8-12 weeks. Your pup and you will be better off in the long run.
Good Luck! and I hope you enjoy your new puppy.
