What are safe places for tourists to stay in Paris?
I am 18 and my sister is 16 we are Amerian and are trying to find a sublet in Paris for July. My parents don’t have much experience with Paris so we need to know if certain areas are "safe" for two teenage girls to be alone.
I found a great place in Montmartre / Sacré Choeur for example, is this a good choice?
Montmartre and the Sacré Coeur are safe places. The only problem is that the neighbouring areas are not the best.
To the east is Barbès, which is the least safe place in Paris, and to the south is Pigalle, where there are lots of sex shops. I’ve been walking in those areas at night and even if nothing happened to me, I didn’t feel very safe. During the day, no problem at all.
If you have the option, I would look for a place in Saint Germain, the Latin Quarter or le Marais. Those places are more central and the safest, day and night. Plus, they are as nice as Montmartre!
Pretty much anywhere in central Paris is fine, though some of the suburbs are pretty sketchy. Montmartre is one of the richer parts of Paris, as well as one of the most beautiful. It will be fine, but watch out for Africans who try to tie a bracelet on your hand in ten seconds and then charge like 5 euros for it.
