What are some unique alternatives to hotels/hostels in Paris?
My parents are planning a trip to Europe this summer. In London they are staying in a College dorm, and a Catholic Convent in Rome. They are hoping to find a similar unique accommodation in Paris. A low price is important and at 48 they are bit old for the hostel scene. Any suggestions?
They are not too old for hostels = my 62 year old cousin always stays in hostels all over the world.
Have you thought about trying to arrange a home stay? I have no idea how to go about it…Also, have you considered a home exchange? I’m guessing Google will be your friend in exploring either of these idea.

Well, one of the odder places to stay is in a hotel that is located inside the Hotel Dieu (which means hospital and ordinarily has nothing to do with the English word "hotel") in the square next to Notre Dame. The location is unbeatable, literally in the exact center of Paris.

There’s about 400 hotels here in Paris to look through with good prices , except Paris isn’t cheap

The best hotels are actually 4 star as France has a luxury tax and doesn’t show 5 stars. Louis XV was a magnificent hotel which was an ancient monastry – but expensive !!
Try Hotel Saint Dominique, a former convent and very, very Parisian. It’s on the street of the same name near the Eiffel Tower. I think it’s about 80 euros per night.

It’s a "pension" in the city, near Luxembourg Gardens and about 10 minutes from Notre Dame. It’s two floors of a six story building (with elevator!), run by a guy who lives on the 6th floor. The pictures on the website hardly do it justice, it’s a beautiful building. About 50 Euros a night for a room with private shower in the room and a bathroom down the hall. Also has a balcony overlooking the entrance to the Gardens. It is small, and family run, but the guy who runs it is incredibly nice. He woke up at 2am the night before we were supposed to get there (there was a misunderstanding about flights), and let us sleep on an extra mattress in the laundry room for free as he was completely booked. Also, he speaks excellent English.
