What are the geographical features does France have that her neighbors do not?

My daughter is working on a Girl Scout project and we need to know what geographical features France has that her surrounding countries do not and what effect these geographical features have on the country.

Thanks so much!

The shape of the country in itself is unique: it fits perfectly into a hexagon.
On one side (the west) it is completely on a coastline, and has a second coastline on the Mediterranean in the South East whilst in the North, East, and South West it has borders with eight different countries: Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Monaco, Andorra and Spain.
As a result it can trade with other countries by sea and also be a trade corridor for other nations. It has a navy and an active fishing industry, and a prosperous tourist industry as natives from other countries with no coastline come there on vacation on its lovely beaches.
It also has several ranges of mountains, which draw tourists for winter sports, and that are exploited to make electricity thanks to various barrages.
Because of its location in a temperate zone and the sunny slopes of its hillsides, vines can be grown which yield grapes out of which wine is made. The French wines are world famous.
It has vast plains which lend themselves to the growth of wheat, and huge grazing areas so that all sorts of cattle are bred and, as a result, France makes the greatest variety of cheeses in the world: cow, ewe and goat. It has deep natural caves where both cheeses and wines are matured.
It enjoys the facilities of five major rivers: Seine, Loire, Garonne Rhone, Rhine so it has developped a vast number of canals, facilitating the transport of goods by barges, which is economical and environmentally friendly.
Some countries around of France may have some similar geographical advantages but none have the combined variety and multiplicity enjoyed by France.

Good luck with your daughter’s project.
