Livemocha.com Best site to learn a new language thats free and its supported by the New York Times. I personally use it to learn german since you can talk with actual people there and go through thorough lessons.

Erm well i don’t know but have you got a Nintendo DS? You can download this game: My French Coach. It’s really good. (:

Or you can google for French Ecole and download their podcast. That’s good too.

To learn the basic things to say you can go to:
    bbc.co.uk/languages
    then click on French
I used it to start learning German.

It’ll teach you things you’d need to know to say if you were like visiting France (Greetings, Going to the Store, Going out with Friends, ect)

http://www.Edufire.com is a good place for learning languages (including French). There are quite a number of French teachers registered there, ready to give one-on-one as well as group lessons.

As to Livemocha, my first concern is that the users of that website are not teachers. They will be able to correct your mistakes when you talk to them, but they don’t have the knowledge as to how to teach a language. Also, since the learning content for this website is translated from other languages by its users, Livemocha tends to have mistakes in its lessons and explanations.
