What sorts of jobs can American college graduates find in France?

I will be getting my BA in French at a University in the US, and would love to return to France to work. What kinds of companies are hiring English speaking graduates?

Nowadays it is no longer possible to apply for jobs in France if you are not an EU national. The only non EU nationals that are allowed to stay and work in France long term are those with special skills in certain areas and that are sponsored by a French firm, or in the case of an internal transfer from a firm that has a footing in France and that can prove that the employee’s skills are indispensable. Sadly, the work situation in France is dire and there are hundreds of unemployed graduates with degrees in English and in French who are seeking posts without success. Since the Schengen agreement that allows free movement of labour between EU nations, French graduates with a degree in English or British (or Irish) graduates with the same qualifications as yourself have by law to be given preference to any other candidate for a bi-lingual job. As things stand preference is mostly given to French nationals.
Your best recourse would be to get a job with an American firm that has a footing in France and perhaps at a later date when you have proved your qualities, ask for a transfer, but even then your chances of long term employment are very slim. The alternative is to study for additional qualifications in a specialised field. At least you have the advantage of being fully proficient in French over many other Americans who wish to work in France.

Just like foreigners are not permitted to work in the USA, non EU residents can’t work in France. Keep trying but there will be many obstacles.

Can you teach skiing? There might be some short-term seasonal work in a resort town that lets you get your foot in the door. Like the others said, It’s not good for non-EU workers in France.
